At your first appointment, we want to find out as much about you as possible. This will include a full medical and dental history, along with a discussion of what you want to achieve. If you have any concerns or are nervous about dental treatment, please tell us. The team is highly experienced in treating nervous patients, and we have available the services of a qualified medical doctor and anaesthetist to provide sedation if you need it. For children on the nhs we can also provide laughing gas.
Your dentist will perform a full oral health check, thoroughly examining all areas of your mouth including teeth, gums and all surrounding structures. We may take radiographs to help with diagnosis, and will also check for oral cancer as standard. As with all forms of cancer, early diagnosis is vital, so this is an important part of the standard dental check-up.
We'll also talk to you about your dental health, including diet and any habits that may have a negative effect on your smile. You'll be given advice on how to lessen these negative effects, and will recommend you visit the hygienist, who will give your teeth a thorough clean and provide you with advice on how best to care for your teeth at home.
If we find you need any preventative or restorative dental treatment, or if you are interested in cosmetic dental treatments, we'll provide you with a detailed treatment plan, including all your options and an idea of costs.
